We successfully constructed and handed over 23 individual wells to vulnerable families living in Solaivetuvan, Upparu, Maiyinkarachi Shafi nagar and Viduthaltheevu villages in Kinniya and Muttur DS Divisions – Trincomalee district under the Dig A Well programme.
We successfully constructed and handed over 11 individual wells to vulnerable families living in Poovarasanthive, Soorangal, Naduthivu and Maniyarasan Kulum villages in Kinniya DS Division – Trincomalee district under the Dig A Well programme.
Successfully constructed and handed over two mini water supply systems to vulnerable families living in Marchchikkaddy and Karadikuly villages in Musali DS Division – Mannar district under the WASH programme.
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka has provided permanent pipe borne water connection facilities for 35 vulnerable families in selected villages in Kinniya DS division in Trincomalee District.
The selected beneficiaries are from Samurdhi recipients of low income families and affected by the prolonged war and displaced number of occasions.
The people of these villages are vulnerable and cannot afford to have clean drinking water facility in their homes. They used to collect water from dug holes that are the only available source in remote areas. Unfortunately dug holes also dry up during the six month drought period and they have to travel long distances almost every day in search of water. They collect water from other sources like rivers and ponds, which are contaminated and not suite for drinking purposes.
Necessary equipment were handed over to the beneficiaries with the presence of Mr. A.S.M. Riyath (Assistant Director – Planning), Mr. A.A. Muhsith and Ms. M.H. Musrath Begam -Development officers from DS office Kinniya and Mr. Rameez of Muslim Aid , the event was held at Kinniya Divisional Secretariat.
