Muslim Aid aims to promote agricultural production by introducing modern agricultural technologies that create higher yields and are more cost-effective than traditional cultivation methods.
Sri Lanka is in the midst of an unprecedented economic crisis. Due to drainage of foreign reserves, imports have been restricted. Local production is now encouraged in all sectors in order to mitigate various shortage crises. One such sector is local agriculture. Local homes, schools, and communities are encouraged to start small-scale gardens to cultivate their own food and combat the growing country-wide food insecurity.
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka is responding to this emergency situation through its regular programmes of distributing dry ration packs to selected vulnerable families and providing nutritional food packs to needy pregnant/ lactating mothers. In addition to this, Muslim Aid also supports urban and rural families to grow their own food through home and community gardening programmes.
One such initiative is the integrated sustainable livelihood and income generation programme in the Kuchchaveli Divisional Secretariat division in Trincomalee. This programme aims to promote agricultural production by introducing modern agricultural technologies that create higher yields and are more cost-effective than traditional cultivation methods.
Under this modern agricultural technique, Muslim Aid supports farmers, communities, and schools by providing drip and sprinkle irrigation systems; and supports selected farmers and schools with mulching irrigation technology that can be used without a replacement, for over 10 years.
