Together for a Better Future

Muslim Aid is a dynamic UK-based humanitarian organization that’s been making a difference in people’s lives since 1985. With a longstanding presence in 70 countries and 12 active field offices including in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Sudan, Muslim Aid delivers life-changing support to people in need, no matter their background, faith or identity.

Muslim Aid endeavours to tackle poverty and its causes by developing
innovative and sustainable solutions that enable individuals and
communities to uplift their lives and live with dignity and by supporting
initiatives that promote economic and social justice.

Our vision is the alleviation of poverty, universal education and the provision
of basic amenities for those in need, in order to create a world where charity
and compassion are at the core of things, resulting in economic
empowerment, social justice, self-reliance and the upliftment of entire
communities.

Far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast. Far far away, behind the word mountains,

Who We Are

Muslim Aid was established in the UK in 1985 by community leaders from 17 Islamic organizations in response to the drought in the Horn of Africa. As a leading and well established faith-based British humanitarian charity, Muslim Aid’s work is governed by the teachings of Islam, such as compassion, empathy, generosity and helping others in need. This is implemented through emergency responses and eliminating poverty and its causes by developing innovative and sustainable solutions that enable individuals and their communities to live with dignity.

Working in over 70 countries across the globe for almost three decades, Muslim Aid is a UK-based international relief and development agency, with its roots in the humanitarian teachings of Islam. Muslim Aid aims to help save and improve the lives of millions in the world’s poorest countries. The Qur’anic verse, “…and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.” (Al-Qur’an 5:32) demonstrates the value of each individual life and it is the ethos by which we operate.

Intrinsic to our mission is empowering and building the capacity of local people in many of the world’s poorest countries. Our microfinance and livelihood programs give individuals the resources and skills necessary to help them out of the poverty cycle, giving them back the dignity that is rightfully theirs. Our other programs include: Emergency relief, Healthcare and Raising-Awareness, Clean Water and Sanitation, Shelter and Housing, Education and Skills Development, Food Security and Nutrition, and Specialist programs such as Orphan- Care programs that are aimed at helping to alleviate child blindness. Over the years Muslim Aid has established field offices in Sudan, Indonesia, Bosnia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Iraq, and recently Cambodia and the Philippines. Our overseas offices help us respond to emergencies more effectively and accommodate our long-term development programs.

We work with people regardless of their race, gender, religion, nationality or political opinion and we are a signatory of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Code of Conduct. We are also members of British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND) and the European Commission Humanitarian Aid (ECHO). Muslim Aid is working with the British Government’s Department for International Development (DFID), World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UN, Muslim Council of Britain and agencies like Islamic Relief, Oxfam, UMCOR, Ameri Cares and many others; to achieve the Millennium Development Goal of halving world poverty by 2020.

We are in Sri Lanka

Muslim Aid has been active in Sri Lanka through local partners over the last ten years supporting education, nutrition, shelter and income generation projects. Muslim Aid’s Sri Lanka Field Office was established in May 2005 in the aftermath of the tsunami in 2004, to primarily address tsunami reconstruction and rehabilitation work. Today, we provide emergency relief to victims of disasters. We also provide long term development assistance in the form of microfinance, education, child support, water and sanitation, health and housing and shelter. MASL is also involved in peace building activities. While adhering to our global vision, mission and values, MASL believes Sri Lanka’s local situation requires a special set of guidelines.

Our remit is to establish an island wide comprehensive development programme working with all communities: tsunami and war affected; rural and urban; and the poorest of the poor. Our aim is to establish new partnerships and identify new projects for a better Sri Lanka. Ensure Proper Consultation and Communication by being adaptable and responsive to the changing needs of our beneficiaries. Be Professional by providing high quality, efficient and effective services. Ensure Coordination by working in partnership with others.  Ensure Transparency by being accountable in all our work.
