LivelihoodMrs. Marzooka -widow

The Story of Marzooka, a widow working tirelessly to feed her children and keep them in school to ensure a better future for them.

Mother of four beautiful children, Mrs.Marzooka is a widow & the sole breadwinner for her family. Marzooka suffered great despair and anguish when her husband tragically passed away in 2009 due to a heart attack. She faced the prospect of caring for 4 young children, without her beloved husband.Despite the tragedy that shook her life , Marzooka stepped up and started her own little Broom making workshop; making & selling brooms for a living. She vowed to keep earning and making sure her children kept going to school & there was always a roof over their heads & food on the table.

Her journey has been a struggle. With the monthly income for the past years being between LKR 3000 – LKR 5000,
there was hardly enough to send all four children to school. This meagre income has been severely insufficient to manage their daily expenses and school fees or save up.

Through all her emotional distress and vulnerability, Marzooka never stopped making brooms. Her hard work &
perseverance was why MASL sought her for Livelihood support, and provided LKR 30,000 worth of Supplies for Broom Making, so that she could increase her output, increase sales & use her profit to keep a steady flow of production and income.
