Civil Organization Capacity Building for Vulnerable Farmers

In August 2020, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, conducted a civil organization capacity building workshop for vulnerable farmers of Poovarasantheevu and Samasatheevu. 

The workshop was part of the livelihood support programme for vulnerable farmers families of Poovarasantheevu and Samasatheevu.

Thirty (30) key members of different civil organizations in the region, both active or inactive, participated in the capacity development and leadership training program on the 22nd of August 2020. This training event was organized jointly by Muslim Aid Sri Lanka (MASL) , the Grama Niladhari and EDO officers of the villages of Poovarasantheevu and Samasatheevu in the Kinniya DS division. 

Present at this workshop were the members of the RDS, Masjith Trustee, Agriculture and Fishing Societies members. Two trainers, Mr. A.M. Najath – Professional Counselor and Motivational Speaker; and Ash Sheik Dr. Mufeeth – Islamic Finance scholar and Lecturer, conducted the programme beginning with the introduction of Muslim Aid Sri Lanka staff. Twenty-six (26) farmers of these two villages have already received livelihood support inputs from MASL to increase their farm production from vegetable cultivation, dairy farming and poultry rearing .

The leaders of the two villages are expected to enhance their leadership and organizational capacity to develop their villages by using the different resources obtained from government and non-government organizations. The main objective of the capacity building program was to inform stakeholders of the facilities that are available, and to promote the better use of these resources
